Adsorption Of Ternary Metal System Onto The Sawdust Of Locust Bean Tree (Parkia biglobosa): Equilibrium, Kinetics And Thermodynamics Studies

چکیده

The use of raw sawdust, RSD, of locust bean tree (Parkia biglobosa), a low-cost, locally available agroforestry waste as an adsorbent for removing a ternary mixture of heavy metals comprising of copper, lead and nickel (TMS) from aqueous solution was examined. Equilibrium data obtained from batch adsorption experiments were analysed with Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models, with Langmuir equation giving the best fit to the data. The effect of contact time, initial concentration and pH of the solution and dose of RSD on the efficiency of the sorption process was also evaluated. The kinetics of the sorption was studied using different models; it was observed to have followed pseudo–second order model with high R values and close agreement between the theoretical and experimental values of qe for all initial TMS concentrations studied. The thermodynamic parameters of the adsorption showed that the process was feasible, exothermic and accompanied with increased randomness

Use of Sawdust of Aspen Tree for the Removal of Chromium (VI) from Aqueous Solution

Adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) onto sawdust of aspen tree and activated sawdust, was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, initial concentration, pH , temperature, agitation speed, absorbent dose and particle size. Cr (VI) removal is pH dependent and caused to be maximum at pH 2.0. The amounts of Cr(VI) adsorbed increased with increas...

Adsorption of Phenolic Compounds onto the Activated Carbon Synthesized from Pulp and Paper Mill Sludge: Equilibrium Isotherm, Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Mechanism Studies

A new activated carbon was produced from pulp and paper mill sludge as a low cost precursor via chemical activation by zinc chloride. The activated carbon was successfully used for the adsorption of phenol and two of its derivatives, i.e. 2-chlorophenol and 4-nitrophenol from aqueous solutions. The characterization of the prepared activated carbon demonstrated high textural properties for the s...
